Man Up!
A phrase I’ve heard since I can remember.
A baby boy falls: “Get up don’t cry, man up!”
A cute little toddler picks up one of his playmates dolls: “Put it down, that’s gay, man up!”
A boy gets bullied in school: “Fight back, man up!”
A young man starts to date: “Be an asshole, man up!”
A guy shows emotions: “Don’t be a wuss, man up!”
The society we live in raises boys to be tough, cold, emotionless, expressionless, and macho. But what does that even mean? So to be a “man” means to fight with your fist, the inability to communicate, holding in feelings that can’t even be identified, treat women like meat…all while one hand beats the chest and the other keeps the balls warm! This is a terrible way to raise our boys because guess what those boys will grow up to be men, men with issues! That attitude and mentality ends up being a road block in life. A little boy who is taught to put his fists up gets labeled as a “problem child” and unfortunately people tend to just let the “problem child” be until he becomes “a lost case”; it’s so unfair that little boy was stripped the opportunity to do something with his life because the only lessoned he learned was “man up!”. The little boy who was told having emotions was for wussies meets a girl one day and he has these feelings for her that he can’t describe because he’s a boy and boys don’t have feelings so he does what he’s told and treats her like an asshole; another boy cheated a piece of life…love.
Those examples might seem extreme but it’s true, “man up” is more than 2 words it’s a way of life. This video illustrates my point crystal clear!
